Talib Kweli & Blacksmith @ SXSW (photos)
March 20, 2008Check out these photos taken by yours truly at Talib Kweli and his Blacksmith crew’s performance this past weekend at South By Southwest in Austin, TX. It was superdope!!!!! We’re editing the video footage this week – look for that soon as well.
First Jean Grae warmed up the crowd, performing songs spanning across her career:
Then Kweli surprised the crowd by running out for “Say Something”:
Kweli and Jean Grae rockin:
More shots from Kweli’s set:
The lovely and amazing Res was onstage singing as well:
Then Kweli brought out Strong Arm Steady – Phil Da Agony, Krondon and Mitchy Slick (these dudes are hilarious):
And the crowd goes wild…
The whole Blacksmith crew killed their performances – the energy and vibe were crazy, and kicking it with them for the weekend gave me new insight into their artistry and the music they make. Jean Grae and SAS’ new music sounds great. Look for much more from the Blacksmith movement soon.
