The Roots’ eighth offering Rising Down finally hits stores tomorrow. The album is dope as fuck. Play catchup below.
“Rising Up” feat. Wale & Chrisette Michelle:
“Get Busy” feat. Dice Raw, Peedi Crakk & DJ Jazzy Jeff:
“75 Bars (Black’s Reconstruction)”:
“Birthday Girl” feat. Patrick Stump:
While many people are encouraged to say that the song ‘Birthday Girl’ is selling out, I fail to agree. I think it’s just a bad song. I see what they are trying to achieve with it, but I think they have missed the mark.
The socio-political undertones of the song are lost in a blanket of poor style. It’s like saying that you look at a swim wear catalogue to look for bikinis to buy for your girlfriend. You just can’t see for looking.
The rest of the album is fantastic, virtually without fault and part of me wants to buy those speakers for my car that have the bass to far up that you can’t actually hear the song that’s playing because it’s so distorted. This album was made for those speakers.
